School Report Card data for D158 ELA & Math

In reviewing the Illinois School Report Card data for D158 from 2019 to 2024, it became evident that the pandemic posed significant challenges for our students and educators alike. Some of the primary contributors to the decline in academic performance during this period include:

  • Remote Learning: Many students faced difficulties accessing consistent and effective instruction, leading to gaps in learning.
  • Testing Interruptions: The pandemic disrupted standardized testing schedules, reducing participation rates and impacting the reliability of performance data.
  • Socioeconomic Challenges: Low-income students and students with disabilities were disproportionately affected, exacerbating existing achievement gaps.

Despite these challenges, the district has made commendable progress, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA), where proficiency rates have surpassed pre-pandemic levels. However, there is still work to be done to address lingering gaps in Math performance and ensure that all students, regardless of background, have the resources and support they need to succeed.

If elected to the D158 School Board, my priority will be to champion initiatives that promote academic excellence, equity, and innovation. This includes:

  1. Supporting Targeted Interventions: Implementing tailored support programs to help students struggling in core subjects like Math and ELA.
  2. Closing Achievement Gaps: Addressing disparities by allocating resources to support low-income students, English learners, and students with disabilities.
  3. Promoting Data-Driven Decisions: Leveraging accurate, up-to-date performance data to identify areas for improvement and track progress.
  4. Fostering Collaboration: Engaging educators, parents, and the broader community to create a unified vision for academic success.

Our students deserve the best possible education, and I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure that every child in our district has the opportunity and resources to thrive academically. Together, we can build on the progress already made and address the challenges that lie ahead, creating a brighter future for all students in D158. Vote Corine Burns on April 1, 2025.
